Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers, using the GPS, GLONASS, Galileo or BeiDou system, are used in many applications. The first systems were developed in the 20th century, mainly to help military personnel find their way, but location awareness soon found many civilian applications.

Difference Between GPS and GNSS is that a GPS is a navigation system that consists of one or more earth-based receivers that accept and analyze signals. While GNSS refers to the group of satellites that are providing signals from space used to transmit and poisition data.

GNSS Receivers are the core product for satellite positioning. They convert signals from visible satellites into a position on earth. The amount of visible satellites is dependent on the number of constellations the receiver is compatible with, such as GPS, Glonass, Galileo and Beidou.

Scientific and industrial applications of GNSS signals and data usually require non-standard features of the receiver. Access to intermediate signals is not possible in mass-market receivers, and professional equipment is costly and often a ‚black box‘ that does not offer exact information about how signals are being processed.
